Central City Poetry Festival – September 21

Central City Book Signing
Setup at the Teller House – Central City

I went to the mountains on September 21! The Teller House in Central City invited poets and authors to a day of literacy, the first-ever Central City Poetry Festival. I signed copies of “Red Dragon’s Keep” and “WindRunner”, the newest entry in the “Dragon’s Children” series. I got to see some of the aspen gold on the way.

I haven’t been to Central City for twenty-five years. The drive up on an early Saturday morning was gorgeous. The town has changed of course but is still charming. I can’t believe how steep the streets are. In my mind, I kept seeing the poor horses pulling wagons up those hills. I met lots of interesting and interested people. See the Dragon on the left side of the table?

Loading out was interesting. I left my Dragon on the table next to the door. Didn’t even notice. When I got home, I unloaded the van and still didn’t notice. Later that night, I was going to remove the batteries that power her light.  It felt like my heart stopped pumping blood. Instant panic. I looked everywhere in the van. No dice. My daughter, who was spending the night, searched the van. Nothing.

The Dragon

I finally emailed Jeff, the event organizer, and asked if he had seen the Dragon. He had it!! Thank goodness. One of the authors who sat next to me at the event went and picked her up. She is back home and ready for her next adventure!

What a Bargain! .99¢ eBooks for Amazon Prime Days

Red Dragon’s Keep and WindRunner EBooks – .99¢ each for Amazon Prime Days – July 15 & 16

From award-winning author Natli VanDerWerken come the tales of The Dragon’s Children. Inspired by a fairytale she told her five grandchildren one Christmas Eve, the main character in each book is based on one of them.

Multiple award-winner Red Dragon’s Keep begins the series of five books. The main character, Thomas Arach, is the heir of the Duke of Red Dragon’s Keep. He must master the magic in his blood, learn to wield his Sword-of Light, and prepare his home for the coming Demon War.

WindRunner, Book II in the series, stars Owen Arach, the second son. In the race to unite the pieces of the Power of Dragons Talisman, a magical WindRunner chooses Owen as his rider. They must brave the Darkened Forest, close a Rift into another world, and battle Demons sent to kill them all. Will the Forest Lords come to his aid? Can he save Aos Si, ancestral home of the WindRunners?

DreamWalker, third in the series and in its first draft, features Breanna, youngest daughter of the Duke of Red Dragon’s Keep. She has a unique gift: she can walk through other people’s dreams. What she observes shows what the dreamers are planning. The Dragon Talisman occupies more and more of her own dreaming. When she walks through the dreams of the Dark Sorcerer, all hell breaks loose.  Can her awakening gift help save her family?

Falcon’s Spire and Talisman will round out the series. They feature Cameron and Evan Gobhlan and their journeys to master their gifts.

HEARTBROKEN OVER THE END OF GAME OF THRONES?

Dragon’s, Demons, and Magic Star in WindRunner!

The Game of Thrones is over and millions of people are suffering withdrawal symptoms. I’ve written just the story to take that suffering away — WindRunner.

Book Two in The Dragon’s Children series continues the story of the Arach family as demons, evil fey, and magic assault their world. A magical WindRunner chooses Owen Arach, second son of the Duke of Red Dragon’s Keep, to find a piece of a powerful talisman that controls Dragons.

I started the series with multiple award-winning Red Dragon’s Keep. Inspired by a fairytale I told one Christmas Eve, the main character in each of the five books is based on one of my grandchildren.

WindRunner let me explore the complicated relationships between brothers.

Owen wants to be as brave and confident as his older brother. He feels useless and jealous and doesn’t know how to deal with those feelings.

All of that changes when he must confront the fey of the Darkened Forest, sway the Forest Lords to his cause, and battle demons to get the Aos Si Amulet. The WindRunner, his Sword of Light, and a Dragon help him grow and change.

I had fun using my military background to create authentic battle scenes. Someone told me that when he started reading those scenes his heart began to beat faster. Another reader said she got goosebumps reading another scene. That’s a huge compliment!

WindRunner is available on Amazon at amzn.to/2JImLYz and Barnes and Noble B&N//2K56UTo as an ebook ($4.99) or paperback ($15.00).

WindRunner is at the Printer!

WindRunner – Book 2 – The Dragon’s Children

I sent WindRunner to the printer yesterday! It should be available by next week. I can’t wait to get it out to everyone.

WindRunner

The WindRunner resembled a warhorse, but twice again its size. He gazed imperiously over the assembly. A toss of his head sent an impossibly long forelock and mane floating about his head and neck. The WindRunner fastened his glistening black eyes on Owen.

Owen sucked in a breath. The book he was carrying slipped from his fingers and thudded on the stairs.

I have come for you. The WindRunner’s voice echoed in the minds of everyone.

Murmurs rippled around the great hall. The WindRunner paced into the room and up the aisle between tables and benches. Owen turned as if to run back up the stairs but hesitated.

What if it follows me up? He stood rooted on the fourth stair from the bottom.

Owen felt he was shrinking as the giant creature approached. He began to tremble with a combination of fear and anticipation. His throat turned dry and his breathing increased, making him light-headed.

I choose you. Gather your things and come with me.
